So, we had our “home visit” from the Animal Welfare Approved inspector last month just before we opened (like the day before the final inspection). We were pretty much in sync with everything they require and the things that needed changing have been taken care of. I’m still not totally convinced it makes no difference to castrate bucklings at seven days vs. 4-6 weeks, but we’ll see how that plays out.
Just waiting for the remainder of the audit process to be completed and we will be an Animal Welfare Approved Farm!! That means we are following exacting standards of humane and healthy treatment of our goats, which frankly we were already doing. But soon we will have earned the right to put this label on our cheese!
