Each year we have first fresheners who need to learn how to act like proper ladies on the milking stand. We never force them to do anything they aren’t ready for, so this year I started out just letting them come into the parlor with mom (or their favorite adult) and watching her get all the yummy grain while on the stand. It’s usually not long before the yearlings are going “Hey, there’s food in there! How do I get me some?”
This if Fricka’s third visit to the milking parlor and she did her damnedest to get to that feed without getting all four feet on the stand. Finally, she jumped up from the back of the stand, walked up and stuck her head in the bowl while Momma Kenzie (blue collar) showed her how it’s done.
